Your Impact = Wishes Granted

“I want a play-set”. Grayson, a 7 year old from Oconomowoc, is living with congenital heart disease. Due to WADA Wish Week last year, his wish to get a play-set soon will be granted! With your consideration to this WADA initiative, you can help to grant a wish that renews hope, uplifts spirits and encourages the belief in the impossible.

The Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association, in support of Make-A-Wish,  is promoting a statewide initiative to help create wishes for children with critical illnesses. Schools, students, spectators, and communities across are being challenged to host an event like a Miracle Minute to help raise awareness and vital funds to bring hope, strength, and joy to children battling critical illnesses throughout our communities. A wish is more than just a fleeting moment of happiness; it is a turning point that can restore a child’s hope and positively impact their well-being during a time often filled with worry and uncertainty. All funds raised stay in Wisconsin and help to grant the heartfelt wish of every eligible child, and this initiative brings us closer to that goal!

There are currently 500+ students in Wisconsin on the waiting list and there are families in our schools and in our membership that have either benefited from Make-A-Wish or hope to be impacted in the coming future.  Based on our collective efforts of the past 3 years, we were able to grant 7 wishes to students/families in need in Wisconsin…and we know we can have a greater impact! As an Association, we are approaching nearly $40,000 raised for Make-A-Wish Wisconsin since we began participating in this initiative! We have set December 6th-December 13th as #WadaWishWeek. We are making an intentional effort across the state to have a positive impact on others, looking to make dreams come true for those battling life changing adversity. Schools will be hosting a variety of fundraisers, with each one, regardless of the amount raised, going towards making dreams come true!

How could you get involved?

If you host an event at your school, WADA wants to help promote your students and school! You can submit a photo of the event and total raised to the Wisconsin Athletic Directors Association Information Coordinator Eric Plitzuweit and your efforts will be highlighted on X, sportsYou, and Instagram. Here are some of our past efforts across the state!

Northland Pines – $400 Whitewater – $600 Adams-Friendship – $1081 Sturgeon Bay – $559 Mosinee & SPASH Hockey – $948.58 Sheboygan Falls – $1242 Southern Door – $944.76 Wrightstown – $175 Kiel – $481 Great Northern Conference – $1825

Every dollar raised during #WadaWishWeek helps provide a critically ill child with the profound experience of a wish, empowering them to fight their illness and energizing their entire family. Just imagine if every WIAA member school, high school and middle school, simply raised $50. That effort would generate roughly $26,750 to make a lasting impact on a child, a family, a community!
