WADA State AD of the Year Peggy Seegers-Braun, CMAA
WADA presented the 2017 State Athletic Director of the Year award to Peggy Seegers-Braun, CMAA. Peggy is the athletic director at Divine Savior Holy Angels and Peggy assumed her WADA president duties following the conference. Peggy is known to be a professional who exhibits impeccable leadership, superb organizational skills and an inexhaustible commitment to furthering education and character based sports programs for students and community youth.
Her unwavering dedication to providing quality education, athletic programs and lifetime sports began over 34 years ago. Peggy worked at both Catholic Memorial High School and the University School of Milwaukee as a teacher and coach before she assumed the combined roles of athletic director and physical education/health teacher at Divine Savior Holy Angels. There she continued coaching different levels of volleyball and softball for a collective total of 12 seasons.
As A.D., Peggy has focused on expanding athletic offerings, successfully introducing 8 new sports, and increasing programs from 14 to 40 teams that annually involve well over 60% of the school’s student body. Additionally, Peggy is strongly committed to promoting sportsmanship, ethical and moral behavior. Along this line, she coordinates an annual leadership workshop for student-athletes and coaches emphasizing personal responsibility. Peggy recognized the need for building improvements and successfully participated in a collaborative community effort in designing and funding a $12.5 million dollar athletic and instructional facility which opened in 2015. She also has played a leadership role with the Athletic Booster Club resulted in fundraising efforts reaching $80,000 annually.
Her career as a coach and Athletic Director is enviable as she has overseen and celebrated the school’s combined 95 WISAA and WIAA Regional Championships, 11 WIAA Sectional Runner-Up titles, 39 WIAA Sectional Championships, a combined 21 WISAA and WIAA State Runner-Up titles and 8 WISAA and 11 WIAA State Championships. Peggy’s contributions at the state level are exceptional. She has served on both the WIAA’s Sports Advisory and Scholar-Athlete committees. She has been a WADA gender representative and Board member for a total of 8 years, has also presided and presented at annual conferences, is a member of the strategic planning committee and also serves as a mentor for new A. D.’s. Additionally, Peggy has attended 14 national conferences, served as a NIAAA delegate 3 times, taken 18 LTI courses and has earned the NIAAA professional designation of NIAAA Certified Master Athletic Administrator. Leading a state association will be nothing new to Peggy as nineteen years ago, she was the WISADA
President and following this year’s conference she assumed the WADA presidency.
Peggy’s career most certainly reflects a lifetime of unfaltering character, boundless energy and limitless commitment to promoting the values associated with educating youth through interscholastic sports. WADA is proud to honor Peggy Seegers-Braun as the 2017 WADA Athletic Director of the Year!
